COURSE DESCRIPTION

Children with autism are at higher risk for many nutritional issues including extreme picky eating, chronic gastrointestinal issues, nutrient deficiencies, food sensitivities, and genetic mutations affecting optimal nutrition. Individualized diets, supplements, and lifestyle changes can be the cornerstone to helping them feel their best, do their best, and be their best, and set them up for long-term success.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • The participant will be able to:

    1. List common underlying nutrition issues found in children with autism
    2. Prioritize nutrition issues for an individualized nutrition care plan
    3. Recognize the signs to refer out to a dietitian for additional support

TIMED AGENDA

    • 15 minutes — Introduction and overview
    • 45 minutes — Review of common underlying nutrition issues in autism
    • 30 minutes — Discussion of available nutrition testing options
    • 15 minutes — Recommended nutrition supplements and diets for autism
    • 15  minutes — Wrap-up/Q&A
