Laura’s working education began in the NHS, working predominantly with primary school aged children from both the mainstream and specialist school sectors. Laura played a key role in Pilot projects that supported children whose language difficulties were also impacting on their social, emotional and behavioural skills. Laura’s experience took her into specialist school’s that include both the state and independent sector as well as highly specialist provisions (including an Applied Behavioural Analysis School for children with ASD)

Laura’s time and experience working with children in schools means she has a comprehensive knowledge of the challenges that face both teachers and learners within the classroom. She also has experience of writing supporting evidence as part of the Statutory Assessment process for a Statement of Special Educational Needs.

As an independent practitioner, the experience gained from working with a variety of families, school and charities has led Laura to develop specialist knowledge and interest in the primary areas of speech and language below;

• Language development and articulation in children with Down Syndrome
• Oral motor difficulties impacting on feeding, communication and articulation skills.
• The Talk Tools Approach to Oral Placement for Speech Clarity and feeding.
• PROMPT to facilitate speech clarity.
• Development of speech in non-verbal children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders.

She is passionate about continuing her education within the field of speech and language therapy and she love learning about new techniques and how she can use these to provide the best therapy for your child.
